Diamonds are Forever
First day of senior year
Like a twenty year old partier
So close
This freshman girl
Catches my eye
Like a red apple
In a black and white film
Body of a model
Smile as beautiful
As a rocky mountain sunset
Days around her rolled by
I remain speechless
Not gaining the nerve
Looking down the cliff before bungee jumping
Push the next scene button and fast forward
2 months later
I am dating the symphony-perfect personality
And happier than a fat squirrel before winter
Becoming more attracted to each other every day
Like a smoker and a cigarette
Fast forward onto the next scene
Graduation
Uncertainty hanging over us
Like a shadow of the Sears tower
At least we have summer
To ponder our future and be hopeful
Like prisoners awaiting parole
Push next once more and see me at orientation
At an overwhelming college
Which alone could be it’s own city
Like an ant farm in a classroom
Will we work?
Will my counterpart still work with me?
We are so far away
Like two shoes
Separated by 3 ½ hours
Fast forward one last time
To find the present being written
Back together for almost a year
After a on-and-off tornado of emotional destruction
I finally know what I want
I want to hold onto my model with the beautiful sunset smile
And the symphony personality
Because why look for coal, when you have diamonds?
