I Finally Learned???

"When one door closes, God always opens up a better one for you to step through." Four summers ago, after getting my heart broken for the first time, my mom wrote this in a card for me.
Though I didn't really have the experience or perspective to realize it then, I know now how true this is. I went into this summer still wounded from a heartbreak I experienced earlier this year. I let the toxicity get the best of me for about 10 months...and then one night about a month ago I slammed the door shut and stood in awe as I witnessed another one opening before my eyes.
I think that to see that better door finally open up, one must make a conscious effort to close and lock the door behind them. The only time people stand under doorways for long periods of time is when there is an earthquake...but life is not an earthquake that we need to hide from. If something is not working out we need to get ourselves into a place where we can be better.
So that night when I slammed the door I just felt a change of heart. Why should I wait around for something to make me happy when I could be happy now? I made a decision to make that happen. But that meant going out of my comfort zone. That meant letting someone go that I spent a whole year waiting on. That meant giving the nice guys a chance.
And guess what? I'm happier now than I've been all year. I burned yet another bridge from yet another not so great relationship and I survived. I finally let myself be happy and take a risk to find someone who would actually keep his word and make me smile. And this time if it doesn't work out it won't hurt the way it did before because the nice guys don't hurt girls on purpose.
My mom really knew what she was talking about when she gave me that card so long ago. I know that there are more doors I'll need to close. But now I have proof that God will never take something without giving something better in return. We can all be happy if we have the courage to cut off attachments to the things that are holding us down and look towards the sun as we move on to a better place.
And that is all for my corny, sentimental, over-sharing blog for the summer! Stay tuned for my random, crazy, let's avoid packing one coming soon this week :)

Golden Ponies

29 ways to stay creative....
from stumbleupon. Commentary in pink by myself
(I apologize in advance for the Junie B. Jonesish writing style that popped out towards the end.)

1. Make lists.
Ways to Trick People into Thinking I'm a Disney Princess
                1. Talk to animals, inanimate objects, and myself. Frequently.
                2. Have some form of sparkle on at all times.
                3. Sing impromptu original songs about the current situation I'm in. Include choreography.
2. Carry a notebook everywhere.
So that if someone needs their fate to be decided by a foldey fortune teller/cootie catcher thing, it may be done immediately.
3. Try free writing.
By blogging about your colorful life and shoving it into your friends' faces by posting a link to the blog on facebook. Like-a-so....
4. Get away from the computer.
And do a cartwheel. Or try doing a back bend and then walking on all fours but its like upside down all fours. It's quite confusing to the brain, actually.
5. Quit beating yourself up.
Seriously, though. This is a good one. God made you exactly how you are for a reason. Everytime you insult yourself you are insulting the wonderful One!! You wouldn't tell your friends the things you say to yourself, so don't do it!
6. Take breaks.
To hula hoop. If a hula is not available, drink some green tea and color in a coloring book!
7. Sing in the shower.
Maresy dotes and dosey dotes and little lamsey divey.
8. Drink coffee.
          Or not.....
9. Listen to new music.
Nicki Minaj Pink Friday Roman's Revenge. Yes.
10. Be open.
Maybe not too open though. I kinda tell the whole world everything about me and everything that I think when I think it. Therefore, what could be sexy, mysterious Veronica, then turns into weird, ridiculous Ronnie.
11. Surround yourself with creative people.
          Such as myself. Ha :)
12. Get feedback.
Well I actually don't really like this one because maybe you should just be happy with what God and yourself thinks of yourself. Like if I asked for feedback about these blogs or the songs that I write or the way I dance around, it probably wouldn't all be that lovely. And then it would just ruin the good vibes I get when I write, sing, or dance...whether I'm a pro or just a silly sil!
13. Collaborate.
Yes. Do that. People are great :)
14. Don't give up.
I actually give up a lot kind of haha. I probably need to work on that one before I comment further.
15. Practice, practice, practice.
Also gotta work on this one too....if I don't get something right away I get a lump in my throat and feel like crying and then I move on to something that I get. Woops!
16. Allow yourself to make mistakes.
This reminded me of this super cool book I saw in Barnes and Noble the other day! I don't remember what it's called, but it's a children's book that shows a lot of different accidents made into cute little pictures. Like this coffee spill was turned into a little bunny I think. Or something like that. It was fun, though.
17. Go somewhere new.
Unless you have $20 in your checking account. Then you should probably not go somewhere new for a while.
18. Count your blessings.
Also you can do this when you are bored at work. I could go on for a full 8 hour shift and still have more to be thankful for!!!
19. Get lots of rest.
Naaaahhh. I don't really like to sleep. I wish Edward would bite me and then not drink my blood. So I could be a vampire. So I didn't have to sleep. Cuz it's kind of a waste of time if you ask me. But I'd ask Edward to make it so I was a vampire who still ate human food. Cuz blood makes me cry. And also, I like sour patch kids and cotton candy and macaroni and cheese too much.
20. Take risks.
That spicy little banana pepper you're afraid to try? Might actually turn out to be delightful! Worst case scenario your mouth gets tingly and hot and you have to drink a gallon of milk and then you throw up cuz you drank it too fast.
21. Break the rules.
But I actually don't think this one is the greatest idea. Like what about the rule of you can't drive in the far left lane? I've broken that rule a few times and I don't get  more creative. I get honked at, flipped off, and a bunch of shaking heads. And then I move over so I am with the flow of traffic again. Oopsie daisies.
22. Don't force it.
Yes. Cuz if you try to force open a cap on a bottle of soap or something...it will just pop right off and hit your eye and also make your heart jump because it scared you a little.
23. Read a page of the dictionary.
Umm....maybe I'll try that one when I'm older. That doesn't sound too fun right now.
24. Create a framework.
          .......whatever that means....
25. Stop trying to be someone else's perfect.
Oh believe me. I've been trying since I was 12. And ya know how that worked out for me? Well, I'm still single, that's how it worked out!
26. Got an idea? Write it down!
In your phone's notepad. And then be confused when you look back through it a month later and wonder why an ee cummings poem is typed out in your phone...
27. Clean your workspace.
          HA!
28. Have fun.
Well, duh! If you can't create at least 10 minutes of fun in each day then I am very sad for you. Also you should give me a call. Cuz I'm so fun.
29. Finish something.
Like you just did right NOW by reading this whole crazy long blog I just wrote! Congratulations!

Sparkly Clorox Wipes

It has been much too long since I've last done this. However, now more than ever is a great time to start back up again! In less than 48 hours I will have completed my Freshman year of college. After actually putting that right out there a few thoughts come to mind. First of all....yuck! I'm old! How does time fly by soo fast?! I honestly feel like it was just a week ago that I was scared and confused, moving into the dorms with an embarrassing amount of things and an embarrassing amount of nerves! But second of all, I think of how much I learned this year and how important it was to me. I can't even begin to count all of the crazy memories I get to pack up with all of my things and leave here with. Good or bad, they have brought me closer to the person that I need to be.

School-wise I learned that no matter how hard you study, if you haven't gone to class you probably aren't going to do so hot on the tests. I learned that it's important to form some sort of relationship with your professor because not only are they more personally invested in you, but you are more invested in the class and will care a lot more about doing well. I learned that if you are a procrastinator now, you probably will always be...you just have to learn how to deal with prolonged stress, creating quality work in a quick way, and late nights!

Boy-wise I learned that it's great to be single. I learned that even if it means being alone, standing your ground and respecting yourself is something you'll never regret! I learned what isn't worth putting up with no matter how much you care about the person. I learned that fate has a way of interfering with your plans. I learned that letting yourself be caught up on one person will make you miss out on chances with a lot of great people. And I learned that even if it freaks em out, it's probably best to just be your weird self from the get go so no one gets scared later on when the true crazy comes out.

Self-wise I learned that I am unorganized, messy, scattered, and a procrastinator, and always will be.....and that's okay! I learned that when life feels like it's hard, it gets harder...but then you just learn how to deal and all of a sudden you realize you're content and happy and grateful for life. I learned that I can do more than I think I can. I learned that it's okay that I'm kind of weird because the people that don't like it are boring anyways...helps to weed out some great friends from people I wouldn't necessarily get along with. I learned how important my family is to me and how incredible they are. I learned that I'm going into the right career path.

Faith-wise I learned that God really does have everything planned out to a T. I learned that where I'm at now or at any given moment is exactly where He needs me to be and He has a great reason for putting me there. I learned that He's really always there and that He won't lead anyone to a path they can't hike through. I learned how to trust God's plan for me and how to not try to make my own. I learned how to talk to God like he's my best friend (and then he became my best friend!). I learned that life is beautiful.

This year I made some amazing friends, gained another sister in my lovely Jordyn, got some crazy memories, drove over a few bumps in the road, and came out a stronger person than I've ever been!

Love life! <3

Rivers!

Tomorrow I have a midterm paper due. Have I started it? No. Am I worried about it? Not yet. Will I get it done? Absolutely!
Okay now that we have that established, we all know why I'm writing this blog...avoidance! But anyways, in 30 minutes I will be 19 years old. Now I know I've only lived just under two decades, but it's been long enough to have learned some very important things. Right now I want to talk about happiness.
Every morning we all wake up to a clean slate. There are a million things that could happen in our day...some we can control, and others we can't (such as this ridiculous snow Bozeman got today!). Now some days things just seem to be working with us...like your life is a river and your destination is just down the bend. Other days it seems as if we have to paddle upstream all day just so we don't move backwards!
Those lazy river floating down in a tube days are easy to enjoy. But the doggy paddling, stuck in the same spot days...those are the days that tell us most about who we are.
We've all had our fair share of paddle days. Heck, the past three months have been loaded with paddle days for me! But I think there is a secret to getting through those days, whether it is a random occurance, or you're stuck in paddle-mode for a good while.
The secret is to let those paddle days build the muscles of your soul. Yeah, the lazy floating days are great! But we don't have to improve anything about ourselves to get through those days because they are already just how we'd like them to be. The paddle days are the days where we "work out" and grow as people. Complaining and griping about paddling is just like eating 3 happy meals after running a mile...TOTALLY negates the hard work you've just done for yourself!
I think we know we are on the right track when at the end of a rough day we can: 1. Still clearly see the blessings in our lives and easily thank God for them. 2. Laugh about the little mishaps that may have felt like a huge deal at the time. and 3. Reflect on what was rough about the day, think about what "muscle" of our soul it exercised, and not necessarily know for sure, but look for the positive reasoning behind the paddle day.
So whether today is a floating day or a paddle day, we all have great things in our lives to acknowledge!
Wishing you infinity plus one happy days,
Your Sparkle Blogger :) <3

Not Plural

Those of you who know me well, or are my facebook friends at least, know that I have been as single as a frying pan for such a long time. Sometimes I get annoyed with it, but mostly I'm perfectly content with it...FOR NOW. The other day my lovely Jordyn and I were laughing about my unfortunate luck with boys when I was inspired to create this blog....19 because I will be that many years in just a few short days!
19 Reasons Why I'm Single
1. I spend many Saturday nights doing homework, cleaning my room, and squirting reddi whip into my mouth.
2. To this day any guy that I've ever even had a slight crush on has a code name. Examples: Plaidy, Lezzy, Retainer, Crunchy Grass, Red, Toddler, Captain Underpants...I could go on forever.
3. I have a baby pink and purple unicorn pillow pet sitting on my bed right next to my huge rainbow unicorn pillow pet.
4. Most websites I'm a member of (ie:facebook, blogger, pinterest, etc.) have the word peace, happy, or sparkles in my user name...
5. I'd rather spend my days associating with humans under the age of 8 than ones my own age.
6. I have an inhaler that I use daily....
7. 98% percent of my waking moments are spent either singing, dancing, jumping, laughing, sitting on the ground, or eating.
8. My heart likes me to be interested in guys that either have girlfriends, are not interested in me, or are sassy.
9. I am terrible at texting back.
10. I'm not okay with pre mature physical activity...if ya know what I mean...
11. My brain likes to create little scenarios and movies in my head about the type of guy that will sweep me off my feet and the cute things he will do to swoon me....turns out my brain is bad at picking a dream guy because I have not found one yet...!
12. I have a cough that sounds like a seal/dog/old man.
13. Sometimes I have a lisp when I get excited and talk fast.
14. I tell everyone everything about myself...therefore, I do not have the sexy mysterious thing going for me...at all.
15. I use more of my free time to browse pinterest, creep on facebook, and take naps, than I do to go to social events that may allow me to actually meet a nice singling.
16. I get confused easily and the confusion usually ruins crucial things. Example: Last time I made brownies I mixed up the water and oil measurements and ended up with pizza hut grease brownies. (Also right now I just got confused on how to spell grease...."grease? no that's like the movie. okay...greece...??...no that's a country...oh okay grease.")
17. Murphy's law loves me.
18. 98% of people think I'm the weirdest person they know the second they get a glimpse of uncensored Ronnie...."I just wanna sit under the table right now."
19. Because this is the picture of me when I go to bed at night: Hair on top of head, no makeup, double retainer metal mouth, and clothes 8 sizes too big for me....cute....

Watery Windows

Let me just start things out with a little countdown:
1 week until Valentine's day.
1 month until I am 19.
3 months until I am no longer a Freshman in college.
4.5 months until Miss Megan's and my California adventure.

With all of this excitement coming up I can't help but think that maybe countdowns aren't such a good thing, though. I mean, at any given point in anyone's life, there is always something they are looking forward to. Which is great, because that means great things are to come! But maybe we need to just look at the now and see how great it is. Everyone is stressed about something and not every day is as lovely as we'd like it to be, but everyone has something to look at and smile about. Even if it's "Hey! The sun came up today and the atmosphere didn't burst while I was sleeping to cause a lack of oxygen in the world so I can still breathe!"
Haha...but seriously. There's always something good.

So now to counteract my countdown (which I know I bashed, but they are still fun! :)) I will make a list of the lovely things about right NOW:
I get to have a sleepover with my best friend every night now that we live together.
I met the loveliest person the other day that has put me in just the greatest mood lately.
My room is clean!
There were no spontaneous fire alarms while I was asleep last night.
I have the best brother, two sisters, parents, and nieces and nephews anyone could ask for!
Thanks to jergen's natural glow I am looking down at some pretty tan arms :)
Jeans that were tight at the beginning of the year are fitting quite loosely today!
God has blessed me with a beautiful life, and no matter what happens, will always be a constant in my life.
And though it is extremely cold outside, the sun is shining!!

What are YOU happy about today? :) <3

It's Always January

Seems to me that if I can count on one month out of the year to be a drag, it's usually January...good news is that we are halfway through it!
Now let me just be a typical girl for this next blog. Not counting on any guys to truly care or read this, but before getting into anything with me this is what they should be aware of:
1. If I introduce myself to you as Ronnie and you STILL call me Veronica because it's "sexier", your chances with me will greatly decrease. Those who know me well know that Ronnie is a better fitting name for myself, as I am not mysterious or sexy at all!
2. I overanalyze everything to the point where I drive my own self nuts.
3. If you can make me laugh your chances with me will greatly increase.
4. I am hate games and guessing. If you like me tell me and act like it, if you don't, leave me alone and don't lead me on! It's as simple as that.
5. I am extremely shy until we have spent a little time together. After that I have the most random and hyper personality. If you are too serious you will not like me!
6. Getting random presents makes me feel awkward.
7. Don't let the first compliment you give me be that I have big boobs. And don't let the first thing you wanna do with me be something sexual.
8. I hula hoop and color in coloring books. I love sparkles and flowers and pink and unicorns. I'm still kind of a 6 year old sometimes.
9. If you sing to me I will be enchanted by you. I love boys who love music.
10. I absolutely hate making decisions.
If you're reading this and you're a guy you're either interested in how to woo me, think my random thoughts are entertaining, or are wondering if some of these things are mentioned because of you. In the case of the last, if you are wondering then yes it probably is about you. Ya stupid ducks and plaids, you know who you are!! Haha. Good day! :)
